Description: The upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence provides an opportunity to reflect upon Pennsylvania’s role in the Revolutionary War. While Valley Forge and the crossing of the Delaware commonly come to mind, the conflicts that occurred in what is now western Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia are often overlooked.
Join Jennings staff to discover more about how the war on this 18th century frontier is a powerful illustration of the struggle for freedom, not just for the American colonists, but for all of those who once lived in what is now Pennsylvania. It is understood that a quest for independence fostered the patriot movement, but it must be recognized that the attainment of freedom and independence were also sought by indigenous cultures, individual colonies, enslaved people and loyalists as well.
