In a time when operating costs keep increasing and park budgets keep getting cut, park staff often lack the funds they need to accomplish their educational goals. Since our formation over 20 years ago, 3MJC has developed and maintained several projects throughout the parks that serve to preserve local history, increase educational outreach, and provide finances to support park operation. Below are some of our current and past projects for your consideration. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions!
The Foltz Schoolhouse
After years of renovation and countless volunteer hours, the historic Foltz Schoolhouse at Jennings had it's grand opening on October 22, 2022. It will serve as an educational facility and community gathering location.
The Muddy Creek Oil Field
Our original project, the Muddy Creek Oil Field is an award-winning restoration of an antique oil well and Bessemer Engine located at Moraine State Park. It is open to the public in the summer months on the second Saturday of each month.
Celebrate the Bloom and Park Festival Sponsorships
We originated the Celebrate the Bloom festival at Jennings, and sponsor the Regatta at Moraine and the McConnells Mill Heritage Festival. Click the link below to learn more about the park festivals.
Park Gardens and the Prairie Gateway
We maintain various gardens throughout the parks, including Prairie Gateway at Jennings. Our volunteers also helped establish the Native Plant and Butterfly Trail at Moraine
We offer several volunteer opportunities throughout the year, including an aid station at the Glacial Ridge Trail Ultramarathon and invasive plant pulls. Beginning in 2023, we will start a cemetery maintenance program at Moraine.
At our monthly meetings, we offer free public programming on various educational topics presented by a stellar roster of local speakers and organizations. See our blog for details on upcoming topics!
